Golden Rugs Gallery has been involved in the rug business for three generations, and was established
in 1992 in San Diego, California by the Mikaeli family.
Our mission is to offer the highest quality rugs at the most affordable prices, while at the same time
educate our clients on handmade rugs.
Important topics include understanding the levels of workmanship as well as how rugs differ from one
region of the world to another in both quality and design.
We feel it is essential to inform our clients about various rugs when they purchase a rug, because the

How the Family Business Began Their Journey
The Mikaeli family is of Kurdish descent from the Bidjar region of Iran. The entire family have been
involved in the rug business as mentioned for three generations.
Mr.Youhana Mikaeli, began making rugs in Bidjar, Iran in 1945. He passed his knowledge of rugs to his
son Mr.Houchang Mikaeli. Following the end of Shah era in Iran, Mr.Mikaeli moved with his wife
-Samiran and three children; Jason, Jessica and Jennifer to Denmark in 1980 where he continued in
the rug business. In 1992 he moved his family once more to San Diego, California where he started
Golden Rugs Gallery.
In 1996 Mr. Houchang Mikaeli passed the Golden Rugs business to his son, Jason Mikaeli. Jason
continues to carry on the tradition of educating his clients on the rugs in order to help find the
perfect rug for their needs. With the help of his younger sister, Jennifer assists the clients by helping
them brainstorm and capture their ideal rug for their particular room/rooms. Together, they are a
perfect team that can assist you by designing each room in your house with whatever Idea you have
or help you with an idea that best suits your room.
Mrs.Sami Mikaeli, the wife of Mr. Houchang Mikaeli, is a rug master, highly skilled in the manufacturing
and repair of Persian rugs. Her protege, Mrs.Karla Mikaeli, wife of Jason Mikaeli, continues in her
footsteps to produce high quality repairs to both new and antique handmade rugs.
